Professor Zhan Yongming, a distinguished dizi virtuoso and educator, holds a teaching position in the prestigious Traditional Instruments Department at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he carries the esteemed title of China National Class One Musician. Additionally, he serves as the Vice President of the China Bamboo Flute Society, affiliated with the Chinese Musicians' Association, and holds the role of President of the Singapore Dizi Society, as well as being a Council member of the Singapore Chinese Music Federation. Furthermore, Professor Zhan is honored as the Honorary President of the Zhao Songting Society of Dizi Music.

Professor Zhan embarked on his musical journey at Zhejiang Arts School in the early 1970s, studying under the renowned dizi maestro, Zhao Songting. He pursued further education at the distinguished Traditional Instruments Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, the postgraduate section of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, and the University of Western Sydney in Australia, where he earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Musicology and a Master's degree.

Renowned for his exceptional talent, Professor Zhan gained prominence by winning the first prize in the esteemed Traditional Instrumental Music Competition (Dizi Section) organized by the Ministry of Culture of China in the early 1980s. Since then, he has garnered numerous accolades in music competitions both domestically and internationally. As an esteemed educator, he has nurtured a diverse group of talented dizi players, fostering their growth and facilitating their international success. Professor Zhan has extensively toured more than twenty countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and America, captivating audiences through his mesmerizing performances and delivering enlightening lectures. He has earned the well-deserved title of "the Magic Flute" and has been recognized by the esteemed Washington Post as "an outstanding musician of our time."

In 1997, Professor Zhan relocated to Singapore, where he joined the esteemed faculty of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. In 2004, he assumed the highly esteemed position of professor in the Traditional Instruments Department at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Currently, Professor Zhan is actively involved in the academic community, overseeing the research of Ph.D. and master's students while making significant contributions to the field of dizi music.
