Xi'an Conservatory of Music's Department of Chinese Folk Music, Associate Professor Wang Hui successfully held a Ruan teaching practical music concert in the Chamber Music Hall of the Art Center. The performers in this concert were all undergraduate and secondary school students of Professor Wang Hui, showcasing her recent teaching achievements. The concert featured a diverse range of musical styles and performance formats, including Ruan music compositions from different periods and styles, as well as solo and ensemble performances on various types of Ruan. It presented both traditional and contemporary Ruan classics, as well as some of the latest compositions to the audience.

Profile

The "Silk Road" Ruan Ensemble at the Xi'an Conservatory of Musicwas founded by Associate Professor Wang Hui in 2010 and consists of students majoring in the Ruan from the Department of Chinese Music. Since its establishment, the ensemble has achieved remarkable results in provincial and national competitions.

In 2010,  the ensemble won the silver medal in the professional group category at the "Inaugural Beijing Ruan Competition" organized by the Chinese National Orchestra Society. In 2012, they received the second prize in the ensemble category at the "Second Shaanxi Province Ethnic Instrumental Music Competition" held by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture. In 2013, they were awarded the preliminary round qualification prize at the "9th China Music Golden Bell Awards Ethnic Ensemble Competition" organized by the Chinese Musicians Association. In 2015, they won the first place silver medal in the professional ensemble group at the "2nd National Ruan Art Exhibition" organized by the Ruan Professional Committee of the Chinese National Orchestra Society.

Director

Wang Hui is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chinese Folk Music at Xi'an Conservatory of Music. She is also the Executive Director of the Ruan Professional Committee of the Chinese National Orchestra Society, President of the Ruan Professional Committee of the Shaanxi Province National Orchestra Society, Executive Director of the Shaanxi Province National Orchestra Society, a member of the Chinese Musicians Association, and a Visiting Professor at Xi'an University of Arts and Science. She has served as a judge in various national and regional competitions. She was invited to give lectures and public classes at the Wuhan Conservatory of Music.

 

Soloist

Wang Hui has been awarded numerous solo awards in national and provincial competitions. In 2017, her Ruan ensemble composition "Iberian Fantasia" (in collaboration with composer Wang Lu) won the first prize in the "Government Award Collection and Evaluation for the Third Shaanxi Province Ethnic Instrumental Music New Works" organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture.

 

Wang Hui has received multiple national and provincial awards for outstanding teaching, outstanding mentorship, and outstanding organization. Several of her students have won Gold, silver and bronze awards in solo and ensemble categories in national-level competitions as well as international and provincial competitions. She has published several academic papers and has made numerous invited performances in many countries. In 2010, she founded the "Silk Road" Ruan Ensemble " at the Xi'an Conservatory of Music.

Lu LingWei is a 17th-grade student from the Department of Chinese Music. She has studied under Associate Professor Wang Hui and received meticulous guidance from Professor Ning Yong. LingWei has achieved notable accomplishments, including winning the first prize in the solo category at the 3rd and 4th Shaanxi Province Ethnic Instrumental Music Competitions. Additionally, she won the second prize in the final of the 2018 Asia Music Competition Western Region, the first prize in the final of the 2019 Asia Music Competition Western Region, and the silver medal in the youth professional solo category and the gold medal in the ensemble category at the 2020 Singapore International Ruan Competition. LingWei is also pursuing a graduate program in Composition, studying under Associate Professor Zhao Haihua.

Fang MoHan is a 19th-grade student from the Department of Chinese Music, studying under Associate Professor Wang Hui. She has achieved significant accomplishments, including winning the first prize in the Plucked Instruments category at the National Spring Bud Cup Chinese Music Competition for Primary and Secondary School Students in 2016, 2017, and 2018. In 2020, she received the silver medal in the individual solo category for the Zhongruan at the "Singapore International Ruan Competition" in the Youth Professional Group.

Wang YiQi is an 18th-grade student from the Department of Chinese Music, studying under Associate Professor Wang Hui. He has achieved remarkable accomplishments, including winning the first place gold medal in the Non-Professional Youth Group A category at the 2nd National Ruan Art Exhibition in 2015. In 2019, he received the second prize in the Western Region Professional Youth Group at the Asia Music Competition, as well as the silver medal in the folk music professional youth group at the Bulgaria Finals. In 2020, he won the gold medal in the Youth Professional Group A category for solo Zhongruan performance at the "Singapore International Ruan Competition" and also received the gold medal in the professional group for Ruan ensemble performance.

Ye Lan is a 17th-grade student from the Department of Chinese Music, studying under Associate Professor Wang Hui. In 2016, she won the third prize in the Professional Youth Group at the 3rd Shaanxi Province Ethnic Instrumental Music Competition. She also received the silver medal in the Professional Youth Group and the silver medal in the Professional Ensemble Group at the 2nd National Ruan Art Exhibition. In 2018, Ye Lan won the first prize in the Western China Finals of the Professional Youth Group at the Asia Music Competition. She received the Annual Honor Scholarship from Xi'an Conservatory of Music and secured the first place gold medal in the International Finals of the Professional Youth Group at the Asia Music Competition. In 2020, she achieved further success by winning the gold medal in the Youth Professional Group A category and the gold medal in the Professional Ensemble Group at the Singapore International Ruan Competition. Ye Lan was also honored with the Outstanding Performer Award in the Youth Group at the Shaanxi Province Ethnic Instrumental Music Competition.
