Rooted. Rising. Resilient.

2025 marks a significant milestone – the 10th anniversary of the Rong Qin Yuan concert series, and a decade of Mr Zheng Kaiwen’s inspiring musical leadership. From humble beginnings, we have grown into an orchestra that has achieved remarkable milestones, standing resilient through challenges and ever ready to reach greater heights.

Rooted.

Since our founding in 1983, the Singapore Foochow Association Chinese Orchestra has remained steadfast in its mission to promote Chinese orchestral music and preserve our rich cultural heritage. With unwavering support from the Singapore Foochow Association, we also strive to uplift the musicianship of each of our members. “Countryside” (Singapore Premiere) by Hannah Hsieh exemplifies our commitment to these roots, while embracing innovation and presenting both classical and contemporary works with renewed vitality.

Rising.

Under the visionary leadership of Mr Zheng Kaiwen, we have continuously challenged ourselves, reaching new heights in Singapore’s Chinese orchestral scene. Over the past decade, we’ve introduced numerous Singapore premieres and even a world premiere through our annual concerts. We’ve also played a vital role in nurturing talents, offering a platform for emerging soloists, including prize-winners of the prestigious Singapore Chinese Music Competition, to shine. In this concert, soloists Lim Jun Jie Dexton, Zhu ZhongHong Andy, and Loo Tong Cheng, Leonard will showcase their artistry in three remarkable concertos: Dizi Concerto “Dawn and Dusk” by Lin Chia-Yin, Cello Concerto “Zhuang Zhou’s Dream” by Zhao Jiping, and Suona Concerto: “A Distant Calling” (Singapore Premiere) by Zhou Dongchao.

Resilient.

Through the years, we’ve faced many challenges, but we’ve emerged stronger because of the resilience and dedication of those who came before us. “Hardship and Glory” (Singapore Premiere) by Jiang Ying is a powerful tribute to our journey, honouring the struggles of the past and celebrating our present triumphs. This contemporary symphonic piece reflects our continued pursuit of excellence and our drive to reimagine Chinese orchestral music for future generations. As we celebrate this 10-year milestone, we invite you to journey with us — Rooted in tradition, Rising with aspiration, and Resilient in spirit.
